“Why Suffer” is an oil painting inspired by China. China alone contributes to almost one third of our planet’s total tobacco smokers (300 million). Smoking harms not only the user’s body and mental health, but also our environment. In my painting, I wanted to express the severity of smoking in China with a surreal approach. Unity is expressed with elements of art color and texture. The men are the same person from different angles, so I used the same color palette and implied textures for both of them in order to unify them. Variety is shown by the elements and principles of art form, space, and proportion. The different angles of the man have different forms, and the proportions of the giant cigarette boxes and the man are unrealistic.
